DESCENDANTS OF EDWARDS WEST Sr. and SARAH EDWARDS

There are many WEST families and many more branches of each. This branch, covering the descendants of EDWARDS WEST SR., the ninth child of JOHN WEST SR. and his wife, ELEANOR LAWS EDWARDS, is just one branch of this family tree. JOHN WEST SR. was the third child of nine children of THOMAS WEST and his wife, SARAH TRAMMELL. Thomas and Sarah's descendants were presumably born in Fairfax County, Virginia. They migrated first to the area known as Kentucky County, Virginia, which later became the State of Kentucky. About the year 1795, they migrated across the Ohio River near Limestone (known today as Maysville,) Kentucky to the area known as the Northwest Territory. This portion of the Northwest Territory later became the State of Ohio in 1803. The WEST families originally settled in the area which became Adams County, Ohio. As the population and area grew, boundaries changed. The WEST families were instrumental in establishing and settling other early counties in Ohio; namely, Brown, Clermont, Clinton, Highland, Champaign, and Washington. Although many WEST families and their descendants have remained in Ohio, many branches have migrated further westward to areas which later became known as the States of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Kansas, lowa, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon and beyond. The descendants of Thomas West and Sarah Trammell are found in forty-seven of the present fifty states of America.

Donal S. West, a descendant of Robert and Henrietta Fairfax West, has spent many years during his retirement researching the many and various branches of the WEST families. He has traveled all over the United States to grave sites, court houses, libraries and archives, and has corresponded with hundreds of WEST families. This book is just one in a series that Donal has researched and published. Although many sources are not cited, the information included in the volumes is real. Donal has either seen the birth or death records, gravestones, marriage records, etc. or has seen primary evidence from the respective families which are included in these volumes. The information included in this book is primarily the result of Donal's research. Documentation of the births, deaths, marriages, census, probate records, etc. for Mrs. Lola E. Lindsey's research are cited in the Family Group Sheets for her direct ancestral lineage.

Lola Edwards Lindsey, a descendant of John West Sr. and his wife, Eleanor Laws Edwards, through Sarah Edwards and Edwards West Sr.'s daughter, LETITIA WEST, produced this five volume series of the known descendants of EDWARDS WEST SR. and his wife, SARAH EDWARDS, using the computer software program, ROOTS III by COMMSOFT. This five volume series is available at the Allen County Library, Genealogy Department, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Additional copies may be available at a later date in other genealogical research libraries.

Volume III	Of this five Volume Series of Family Group Sheets on the descendants of EDWARDS WEST SR. and his wife, SARAH EDWARDS, contains information about their fifth and seventh child, GEORGE WASHINGTON and RUSSELL WEST.

Volume IV and Volume V	Of this five Volume Series of Family Group Sheets and on the descendants of EDWARDS WEST SR. and his wife, SARAH EDWARDS, contains information about their sixth child, ALEXANDER WEST. Children of Alexander and Mary Rishforth West Included in Volume IV are: Sarah Ann, Joseph Rishforth, Mary Jane, Elgiva, Nancy Emmaline, Letitia, William Wallace, Clarissa Bell and Edwards West, The remaining three children of Alexander and Mary Rishforth West James Harvey, Tamar Blanche, and Origen Lewellyn West, are Included In Volume V of this series.
