| Gayle Mann's Marsh Family Back to Lancashire Families By Gayle Mann, grmann@mb.sympatico.ca "My interest in the MARSH family comes through Sarah TATE bap. 2 Dec 1830 the daughter of George Tate, tailor of Longtown, Cumberland, England and his wife Margaret THOMPSON. Sarah Tate's first marriage was to Edward COWLEY, sailor, on 18 Sep 1851 at Kirk Braddon Parish Church, Isle of Man. Unfortunately, Edward passed away in 1858. Their only issue was Robert Tate COWLEY b. 21 Jan 1856 who married to Hannah (Annie) JACKSON. I have more information on their descendants if anyone is interested. In the 1861 census, Sarah Cowley is still living at Douglas, Isle of Man with her brother-in-law, Thomas ALSTON. In the 1881 census of 29 Heath Street, Golborne, Lancashire, England I found: Richard MARSH head 37 Coal Miner b. St. Helens Lancs A search of the birth indexes shows: Sarah MARSH b. 1Q 1872 W. Derby Jane Graham apparently did not marry, but Sarah married a Bob Stories from family members say that Richard (Dick) was the manager of a coal mine in St. Helens and lived at Bold Hall between Warrington and St. Helens. He later had Church Tavern at Parr (wherever that might be, perhaps near Manchester?) Any help with further information on my line of Marshes would be much appreciated." Gayle Mann |
