He was born 15 Jan 1779 in Washington Co.,PA. He married Lucretia Tucker (1784-1860+) 4 Feb 1802 in Bracken Co.,KY. She was the daughter of Jacob Tucker. James died 17 Apr 1826 in Bracken Co. (Deed Bk H, p44). His wife Lucretia is on the 1850 census in Mason Co.,KY. and the 1860 census, p263, in Brown Co.,OH.

THOMAS DOWNING R(020)
He was born c. 1783 in Washington Co.,PA. He married his cousin Catherine Ellis (1785-1860+) 8 Dec 1806 in Shelby Co.,KY. He died in 1815 in Shelby Co. (Ref. Will Bk 3, p280, 1815 which mentions wife Caty and daughter Nancy). Thomas appears in the 1810 census for Mason Co.,KY. Their only child was:
Nancy E. born 21 Jan 1809 who married William Palmer, 19 Mar 1828 in Shelby Co.,KY. They appear on the 1850 census in Warren Co., KY. but by 1860 are in Lincoln Co., MO. accompanied by Catherine who died there in the 1860's. Nancy Downing Palmer died in Lincoln Co., MO. 16 Mar 1890.
They evidently made the trip to MO. with Catherine's brother Duncan Ellis and her mother Nancy Downing Ellis.

SUSANNAH DOWNING (R030)
She was born c.1781 in Pennsylvania. She married William Canny(Kinney) 3 Sep 1805 in Mason Co.,KY. Susannah is mentioned in a Bracken Co.,KY. court suit against Robert Downing's heirs, dated 27 Apr 1826, where she is named as the wife of William Kinney. A Susannah Canny, w. of William Canny is buried in the Charles E Fife Cemetery, Union Twp, Clinton Co,OH. It shows she died 3-1-1844, age 63y,1m,9d.

She was born 16 Sep 1786 in Washington Co.,PA. She married James Hooten (1772-1829) 12 Nov 1805 in Mason Co.,KY. She died 4 Mar 1829 in Clinton Co.,OH. The information on their children is

SARAH DOWNING (R060)
She was born 1 Jan 1790 in Mason Co.,KY. She married John Tucker (1789-1862) 15 Oct 1814 in Mason Co. She died 8 Jan 1870 in Adams Co.,OH. They are buried at Boone Cem, Ginger Ridge Church, Adams Co. I have the following children:

JANE DOWNING (R080)
She was born in Mason Co.,KY. about 1800. She married James W. Weir in Mason Co. 22 Nov 1820.
Mason Co. Order Book G, Dec 1814--Jane Downing, infant orphan of Robert Downing, dec, being over 14, selected John Tucker as guardian.
Mason Co. Order Book J, Jan 1822--Motion of James Weir and Jane, his wife, against John Tucker. Jane Weir, late Jane Downing, settle accounts as guardian of Jane.
She is not mentioned in the 1826 suit brought against other heirs of her father and may have died by then.

PRISCILLA DOWNING (R090)
She was born c. 1794 in Mason Co.,KY. She married Thomas Lane 5 Mar 1817 in Mason Co. She and her husband were mentioned in the 1826 suit against the heirs of Robert Downing. I only have a record of one child:

In the 1860 census of Washington Co,IN. there is William and Reason Lane who are probably members of this family.

ELIZABETH DOWNING (R100)
She was born 15 October 1795 in Mason Co.,KY. She married Robert Thompson 25 Dec 1815 in Mason Co. She died 9 Jun 1870 in Brown Co.,OH. Her husband died before 1860 in Brown Co. The following children were extracted from the 1850 census and is probably not a complete list:

Mason Co. Order Book G, p264, Dec Court 1814--Elizabeth Downing infant orphan of Robert Downing, deceased, being over age 14, chose John Tucker as guardian. She is also mentioned in the 1826 suit against the Robert Downing heirs.

REBECCA DOWNING (R110)
She was born c. 1798 in Mason Co.,KY. She married George Baldwin 17 Mar 1824 in Mason Co. She died in 1884 in Vermillion Co., IL. having moved to Illinois in 1865 from Brown Co., OH. Some of their children are:
